1 – Deadly Premonition 2: A Blessing in Disguise

Release date : unknown (2020)
Platform : Switch

The first Deadly Premonition is a B-grade horror game with an incredible atmosphere. This unexpected sequel, provided it offers an improved technical background, could be a hit on Switch. Rising Star Games will only have one chance to prove its brilliance. If you love David Lynch's Twin Peaks universes , Deadly Premonition 2 should be on your radar.

2 – Yakuza: Like a Dragon

Release date: January 16, 2020 (Japan)
Platform : PlayStation 4

The Yakuza series has carved out a place for itself internationally. With Yakuza: Like a Dragon, the developers are shuffling the cards and offering a completely different formula: an RPG! Some will say it's too drastic a change, but I'm of the opposite opinion. There's a lack of classic RPGs right now, and Like a Dragon will feature unique content.

In addition to fighting crime with new protagonists, you can fill a "Pokédex" with unique enemies, change jobs like in some Final Fantasy, complete crazy quests, in short everything that makes the charm of the Yakuza series with a turn-based combat system.

3 – Warcraft III: Reforged

Release date : January 28, 2020
Platforms : Mac and PC

Blizzard surprised us with the announcement of this remaster of the popular real-time strategy game released over 15 years ago (2003). The developers promise us a better balance between the different factions without deviating from the original gameplay .

After a year, Blizzard will finally give us a more modern vision of its famous game. It will be an opportunity to dive into nostalgia. Players unfamiliar with Wacraft III will also have a nice surprise this month.

4 – Dreams

Release date : February 14, 2020
Platform : PlayStation 4

A real incubator for original ideas, Dreams is the result of several years of hard work for the Media Molecule studio. Its potential is crazy: thanks to its powerful editor, you can bring your concepts to life, whatever they are.

Even before its release, Dreams demonstrates its enormous potential as a creative tool. Beta access has yielded some great things and that's just the start. If you're not too lazy to create, no problem: a bit like Mario Maker, you can discover an almost infinite number of games created by the community.

5 – Final Fantasy VII Remake

Release date : March 3, 2020
Platform : PlayStation 4

There is no doubt that the Final Fantasy VII Remake is one of the most anticipated releases of 2020. Cloud and Sephiroth will once again cross swords in a reimagined game. Along with remarkable technological advancements that bring characters and environments to life more than ever before, Square Enix has pulled out all the stops to surprise long-time fans with content.

This is also my downside to the game, despite all its hype : the fact that it is broken up into several episodes leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. Square Enix also adopts somewhat misleading marketing by not specifying that this is the first episode on the official jacket, which will mislead players. As a reminder, this episode will only focus on Midgar.

6 – Ori and the Will of the Wisps

Release date : March 11, 2020
Platforms : PC and Xbox One

A past master in the metroidvania genre , Moon Studios is about to enchant us again with Ori and the Will of the Wisps. This direct sequel to Ori and the Blind Forest takes inspiration from recent hits like Hollow Knight for its progression system.

Judging by the trailer presented at E3, there is no doubt that Moon Studios will wow the gallery again. After two delays, the team finally seems ready to deliver a memorable experience.

7 - Nioh 2

Release date : March 13, 2020
Platform : PlayStation 4

Nioh proved to be a revelation for fans of Souls-like games . Team Ninja is preparing an explosive sequel that still promises to be breathtaking. Some changes to the progression and skills system are to be expected, but the essentials are there: intense combat, loot galore and bosses that will make you rage!

8 – Animal Crossing: New Horizons

Release date : March 20, 2020
Platform : Switch

The first Animal Crossing game will finally see the light of day on Switch this year and it promises! This life simulation promises some major changes, including the presence of a "Nook Miles" currency with which you can buy unique items.

The inclusion of online features will make fans of the series happy. In local network, up to 4 friends will be able to cooperate while online, it will be double. Perfect for chilling out, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a perfect match for the Switch hybrid console.

9 – Doom Eternal

Date de sortie : 20 mars 2020
Plateformes : PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia, Xbox One

Doom 2016 reinvigorated this franchise with a real shooter lesson . Even today, I consider it among the best in its class. So I was disappointed with the delay of Doom Eternal. We will finally be able to knock out the demon in 2020 with a solo campaign that looks promising.

This time, the Doom Slayer will be able to use a grappling hook to traverse environments with greater ease. It will also be able to climb on certain walls, so I expect a level design with more verticality and possibilities. Unfortunately, the Snap Map level editor will not be back. Instead, we will have a multiplayer mode titled Battlemode.

10 – Person 5: Royal

Release date : March 31, 2020
Platform: PlayStation 4

Yes I know, Persona 5 was released a few years ago on PlayStation 4. On the other hand, the Royal version adds so many things that it is worth the detour. Available in Japan for several months, Royal is Golden's take on Persona 4 in that it's the definitive version of the stylish role-playing game.

You'll be able to play as the new character Kasumi Yoshizawa, grapple with Joker in dungeons, explore special areas, go through a dungeon that wasn't in Persona 5, experience a full semester more in school, and much more.

Royal doesn't fix all the issues with Persona 5, but it's definitely one of the great RPGs to get in 2020.

11 – Half-Life: Alyx

Release date: unknown (2020)
Platform : PC

Insert all memes about Half-Life 3 here. That being said, when Valve announced a new Half-Life in 2019, everyone was taken aback. Largely because we no longer believed that Valve developed games, comfortable behind its Steam platform.

Half-Life: Alyx will be a virtual reality experience. Its storyline will take place before the events of Half-Life 2, the last episode of which was released in 2007 (I feel old!). I'm not the biggest fan of virtual reality, but I want to believe that Valve will finally come out of its lethargy. Afterwards, it remains to be seen if the studio can still surprise us with the quality of its gameplay .

12 – Resident Evil 3

Release date : April 3, 2020
Platforms : PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

I love the Resident Evil series and the remake of the second installment released in January 2019 blew me away. The third main installment is one of my favorites. Jill Valentine has never looked so resplendent and I believe that Capcom will deliver another bombshell with this remake .

If you like horror and survival games, zombies and a good dose of action, Resident Evil 3 will blow your mind in April. I can't wait to read the comments of players who have never faced Nemesis, this creature created by Umbrella to eliminate the survivors of Raccoon City. In comparison, Resident Evil 2's Mr. X is small beer!

13 – Cyberpunk 2077

Release date: April 16, 2020
Platforms : PC, PlayStation 4, Stadia and Xbox One

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is often named Game of the Decade. Even though I opted for Rainbow Six Siege, I was very hesitant to give him this decoration in our article for this purpose. In my eyes, CD Projekt RED is one of the most talented studios in the industry. It's also a real studio that doesn't take its fans for fools and understands that the best way to sell a game is through quality.

I love science fiction and for me Cyberpunk 2077 is a dream come true. The developers have spent a ton of time making the missions enjoyable no matter your playstyle (stealth, destruction, etc.). The level of freedom seems unmatched for a game of this scale. CD Projekt RED definitely has another hit on hand. And let's not forget the presence of Keanu “You're Awesome! » Reaves!

14 – The Last of Us: Part II

Release date : May 29, 2020
Platform : PlayStation 4

A real tour de force in 2013 on PlayStation 3, The Last of Us is one of the most influential games of the last decade. The second part marks a clear evolution for the series with striking photorealism and gameplay where every decision counts.

The Last of Us: Part II is the longest game created by Naughty Dog to date. It will also most certainly be the swan song of the PlayStation 4.

15 – Bravely Default II

Release date : unknown (2020)
Platform : Switch

Unexpectedly announced at E3 2019, Bravely Default II is due later in 2020 on Switch. The team in charge of the project gave us the classics Bravely Default and Octopath Traveler, so there is something to be impatient about.

Technically, Bravely Default II will be the third title in this series after End Layer. It will also be his baptism of fire on the home console. The other two games were released on 3DS. Developers are thus under pressure to make a game just as memorable with a much more technical aspect, but I'm not afraid of their expertise. As for the announced date, we will have to see…

16 – Dying Light 2

Release date : unknown (Spring 2020)
Platforms : PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

A commercial success all along the line, Dying Light still remains an outstanding zombie game today. With Dying Light 2, the Techland studio raises the bar. The storyline will have much more weight and ramifications. Chris Avellone, the screenwriter behind cult games like Planescape: Torment is a great addition to the team.

Your actions will transform the world around you. Add to that zombies, parkour and an improved combat system and you have an unmissable game of 2020.

17 – Ghost of Tsushima

Release date : unknown (late 2020)
Platform : PlayStation 4

Who wouldn't want a good samurai game steeped in realism? Unlike a series like Onimusha, Sucker Punch will be more traditional with Ghost of Tsushima. The authenticity of the action and the scenario are priorities for the creators.

That doesn't mean the game isn't fun , though . Yes, some slashes kill with one blow, but everything is weighed to create a sensational experience. Ghost of Tsushima is sure to reward experienced players without dismissing others out of hand. A game that should leave its mark in 2020 on PlayStation 4.

18 – Halo Infinite

Release date : unknown (fourth quarter of 2020)
Platforms : PC and Xbox One

The Halo series has lost its feathers for a few years. After 5 main games and a ton of spin-offs , Master Chief and the UNSC no longer have the stature they once did. When Bungie passed the torch to 343 Industries in 2009, much was expected of the young studio. Since then, Halo is no longer really the same franchise, despite Microsoft's efforts in the matter.

This data could change with the arrival of Halo Infinite this year. New graphics engine, return of split-screen functionality and above all, an epic new adventure announced. It seems 343 Industries has learned from its mistakes. We'll know more once the beta hits, but there's no denying that Halo Infinite is exciting, if only for its back-to-basics premise.

19 – Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2

Release date : unknown (2020)
Platforms : PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One

Vampire: The Masquerade is an old role-playing game originally released on PC in 2004. You may have heard of it for its terrifying Ocean House Hotel level. In short, the Troika Games studio had delivered an ARPG with a phenomenal scenario. Unfortunately, the many technical problems had dismissed more than one at the time.

The Bloodlines 2 sequel comes as a surprise, as the franchise has been dormant for over 15 years. Hardsuit Labs seems well on its way to delivering another still-biting ARPG set in a universe where multiple factions of vampires engage in power struggles.

The inclusion of versions for home consoles could explode the notoriety of this series. The game has a style of its own with characters that have a mouthful and mature dialogues. Another game not to be missed in 2020!

20 – Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition

Release date: unknown (2020)
Platform : Switch

A true gem of the Wii, Xenoblade Chronicles is about to put your schedule in jeopardy. Already the basic game takes about 70 hours to complete (more than 150 for perfectionists), the arrival of new areas and additional content will mortgage all fans of JRPGs!

Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition in handheld mode will also be an interesting way to explore Bionis and Mechonis. The character design was improved, as well as the visual which showed several signs of obsolescence. It will undoubtedly be one of the major titles of 2020 and Monolith Soft's ultimate vision for this great modern-day classic.
